Goan Gems

Goa is a delightful place to be in. I love the typical Goan architecture clearly visible in the churches and houses across Goa. I loved the liberal usage of colors and tiles in the construction. Loads of blue, yellow and red with an occasional orange and even pink. Large houses with spacious rooms and big windows for ventilation are a welcome change from a usually claustrophobic Mumbai. I came back with such beautiful images floating in my head. I wish I could share all of them, but I guess Goa can't really be captured in pictures. Neverthless, I am sharing a few photographs. Hope you will like them.

MARK FAST & LONDON FASHION WEEK LOVE

IM THINKING...
Mark Fast is definately one to watch this fashion week, there are few people so devoted to the non sculptural knitwear techniques which still hugg the body suffieciently for this great era of the body-sock ( I say era- i really mean demand and admiration). Normally i dont love such flesh-happy attire- but there is huge potential for layering with his stuff, and a great many organic patterns for the eye to wander over.

London fashion week is pending and i am EXCITED, I'm not usually this excitied but its like the britney comeback- everyone wants it to happen dispite the fact people love to be sceptical about it... this is why americans love us so much- we have same optimism against the odds. Maybe if people start banging on about the predictability of NY fashion week a bit more they would up their game with some serious suprises!
I have been reading much about the promotional buzz surrounding LFW not perhaps supporting the easily marketable success of young designers which has been spilling into the press the last few years... and that confidence in the event is lacking despite this.

Although you can hardly expect the sure-fire exceptional execution of each show as a grand cultural event (as in Paris), there are always going to be more suprises because the schedule allows more space for the up-and coming. London after all... is the fountain for innovative ideas as my old tutot used to say, but often these innovators get offers they cannot refuse from rival fashion capitals.

Personally, I don't mourn the loss of our biggest names from the schedule, I think the turnover of great designer produce should be emphasised and promoted. I mean, I love the way fashion houses are nurtured in Paris because of the great respect they have for it as an art, but here in London the people of 'great ideas' are recognised and honoured much before they have reached the peak of refinement, thus providing the element of suprise.

Perhaps its just me but i really love that age-old advert for Scottish widow insurance (bear with me) with the super mysterious-looking woman wooshing around randomly in a cape- it was a seriously good look- so when i saw that Austrian mllinary designer Molly Yestadt had created a similar and equally dramatic headpeice-

Generally i think Austrian people have special magic in their genes-not on the von trap family legacy alone...

is full of BLACK tones and confidence.. again i am drawn to the twinkling sequin lightshow like a queen to drag, but somehow the seriousness of her collection makes it look so wearable i am thinking DAYWEAR for the mildly confident?

THE CLOSET IS MY PLAYGROUND

APPARENTLY I used to take my dressing up box quite seriously... when i was a kid (they tell me). It seemed like a huge bucket of gems at the time- someone's wedding dress and my mum's old tutu and some what would now be pretty-sought after vintage- though all that remains now are probably some hashed up barbie clothes i made out of them when Ariel the little mermaid needing some alternative outfits... anyway time to travel out of the dream pipe- or is it?

Perhaps i should start gathering up the remains of fly-tipping outside oxfam after all for funtimes on a sunday?

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are two pretty lttle nymph's who know how to get the SWAMPED YET STILL HOT look to perfection- and acheive dressing-up box chic. Their understanding of how to make this femeniine on slight bones is clear within the collection they have consulted on for 'Elizabeth and James'. I am excited to see more from them and although they started off only licencing ranges under their names as kids- they have been keeping their fingers warm in the fashion pie ever since and i would be surpised if they lend themselves & ideas more generously to the industry over time... the baloon shirt is a serious all-year rounder for those who like the clean-crisp grandaddy look!
