Fur Shure

TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

The fashion gods have spoken: furs are once again acceptable to wear in public. And yes, you can pull of furs! Dare to wear! Wear a leopard printed fur coat for a more rockabilly look, a sleek black coat for a bohemian look or a long brown coat for classic flair.

Fashion front-runner Karl Lagerfeld's opinion falls in line with many of the current fashion designers:
""In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and clothes and even handbags, the discussion of fur is childish."

Us college students don't really have to worry about that though! Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe have glamorous faux fur jackets that don't cost a years tuition.
Ready or not, here they are!

Ornaments

From Our Tree

Little did you know I took these pics of the tree, oh about 2 weeks ago! But I made myself wait until after Thanksgiving before I posted them...

My annual ornament last year, a little baker handcrafted in Germany.
Isn't he sooo cute?

My handmade reindeer (out of clothes pins) from when I was a little girl, he's even missing an eye! Surrounded by the ornaments my step-mom used to give me from Hallmark every year. I made Dad ship my musty dusty box to me last year for my first year with my special collection.

My love got his little handcrafted German ornament last year too, a pretzel man, because everytime we went to the mall, he would have to get a Wetzel's Pretzel! (He will be so embarrassed I posted that- because he likes to make everyone think he has a perfect diet. ;)

My grandmother's hand crocheted ornaments. They make this tree very special and add such a beautiful touch.

On my Europe trip last year, I decided to get an ornament from each country as my souvenir.
From Paris with Love.

Chatty Chipmunk from Hallmark.

& Grandma's adorable crocheted Santa!

Tis the season!

WWJD?

I. LOVE. THIS. BUTTON!

It's true! I watched Julie & Julia yet again this Saturday night. It has been my goal to try a Julia meal once a month since last summer, and maybe now that I'm putting it in writing, and a new year will be starting soon, this can be a new goal. "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" is just so darn intimidating, and I get caught in needing photos when reading recipes. It's also true that "My Life in France" by Julia Child is the only thing on my Christmas list so far this year.

Read my other Julie & Julia post HERE.

Just Because

It's Good to Be Alive

For the first time in 5 years, I ordered a Quarter Pounder w/ cheese, fries & coke...

And put my hair in a bun and wore rhinestone drop earrings on a Monday... just because.

How did you make your day special?

The Portuguese-born Brazilian Carmen Miranda is famously known as "the banana lady". Miranda was the Brazilian Bomb Shell of the 1940s and 50s, singing and dancing and acting in 14 different Hollywood films including The Gang's All Here where her fruit hat gained world fame.

Miranda has become a style icon. She is everything: ruffled, fruity, bold floral and topical. Her wardrobe is alive with creativity. Juicy red delicious beads, banana colored sleeves and a sweet smile are things to incorporate if you want to dress Carmen-esque.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Behind the Scenes

This Thanksgiving we had a quiet dinner for two at our home. I made my second turkey in my life, and I must say that I Rocked the kitchen. The timing was perfect for everything, and my stuffing, green bean salad, mashed potatoes, and turkey were all pretty good. Believe me, I'm pretty hard on myself in the kitchen, but everything went well, except for the cobbler. We forgot to take it out of the oven, oops! It turned into blackberry crisp, though still edible. :)

My sweetie making the cobbler...

Prepping the stuffing the night before.

For inside the turkey: lemon, grapefruit, sage, rosemary, oregano & butter!

Smothered with butter, salt & herbs de Provence
and ready to go!

Voila!

Turkey coma :)

&
I had to work for a half-day on Friday...
as the stock market doesn't close,
especially for Black Friday.

The courtyard Christmas tree.

I braved the Boca Raton mall after work, which puts Beverly Hills to shame for people watching. Saturday, I enjoyed a no-computer day, did a little shopping, went to the movies to see Love & Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway, it was much better than anticipated. Then spent a relaxing evening flipping though InStyle, Better Homes & Conde Nast Traveler. Today, I had a chick flick marathon at home and crafted some ornaments!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

The Talented Mr Evan Czar

Multi - talented and multi - skilled would have to be the words to describe Mr Evan Czar.

Recently Mr Evan Czar unveiled his extra hidden talents in the fashion world, as fashion designer and fashion illustrator!

Not only is he already an accomplished tv presenter and Vogue fashion correspondent, but obviously as of late he is immersing his renewed discovery of design and illustration.

I love the illustrations xoxo. So high end chic, boudoir and glamour... fashionably so stylish with the possibility of being admired at in an antique frame.

Luv it Mr Evan Czar!! xoxo. Thanks for the illustrations/ designs xo

Opinion: Reinventing The Mannequin

Elena Miro's plus size collection has been established for 25 years. For the last five years, Miro's Plus Size Show has opened Milan's Fashion Week. Elena Miro's goal is “to “help real women to feel confident and at peace with themselves." The clothes don't bag the women in an attempt to hide curves, in fact, they accentuate and consequently emphasize the beauty of the woman.

Writing personally, I feel that the collection is monumental for offering high fashion in something other than a size 0. Although, I feel that it is a hollow attempt by Milan to change the way we see fashion and models. When looking at Miro's work as a sole collection, it is significant but not strong enough. The women presented are as unrealistic as the skinny coat racks: Amazon women walking the runway who obviously work out to get their proportions precise. It is true we need well proportioned models to advertise the clothing, but you cannot hide America's weight problem with clothing. The problem is deeper rooted.

Sage Butter

Good Eats for Thanksgiving
from Nicolette & Sage in the kitchen...

First of all, Mom (Nicolette) is letting me (Sage) run this post today! Since I run the roost anyways and developed my culinary excitement from Mom, it was only fitting. Actually, she agreed to let me participate in Good Eats this week after our tomato showdown last week. If you've been reading Mom's blog awhile, you may remember she has mentioned my affinity for tomatoes a couple times. There is nothing like the smell of a ripe tomato on the vine.... mmm mmm! Well Mom neglected to cut up my tomato at dinner time because she was too busy blogging for all you, hmmmph... so I thought I would take matters into my own hands, but I swear I didn't mean to break one of her vintage Mikasa bowls. Sorry Mom.

Well besides tomatoes, I also happen to love when Dad gives me little bits of turkey each morning when he makes his sandwich for work, and since you've probably already seen tons of recipes for The Best Turkey Ever and more than likely have those delicious passed down sidedish recipes from your mom and grandmother, I thought I would share one of my other favorites... butter! (For all you worried about my health out there, no, they don't give me butter, but Dad does occasionally spray my paw with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter... Spway.) Yeah, you know Spway, how Fabio used to advertise it? ;) Anyway, whenever I hear the spray bottle I run to the kitchen, (the same way I do when I hear Mom's first knife chop for my mato). Dad knows I just love licking my buttery paws after, even if I do back away like I'm scared!

So, here's a unique and festive way to present your butter this holiday. Everyone should have butter on the table, right? For those hot rolls, or creamy mashed potatoes? You may already have Sage on hand because of Thanksgiving dinner, and since Sage is the herb of the season (and the reason why Mom named ME Sage, because she loves to cook & because we both have Sage-colored eyes), these extra velvety leaves can be used to create a fragrant butter spread for your tablescape.

Herb Butter

1 or 2 sticks of butter
Fresh herbs
lemon zest (optional)

The best thing about this recipe is you can really use as much or little as you want. We used about 1 stick and 5 sage leaves, with fresh herbs it was pretty potent. Tarragon, oregano, or rosemary would work good too. Let the butter soften outside of fridge for a couple hours. Chop fresh herbs finely and mix in with butter. Take your favorite (or seasonal) open cookie cutter and fill with butter. Make sure butter fills smoothly on both sides. Set on plate, cover with wrap and put back in fridge until it sets. Best to make it a day in advance, or the night before so it can set appropriately. When taking out of fridge, let soften for a minute and lightly push out with your finger.

Note: If you have a thick cookie cutter like I did, you can cut in half or thirds to have thinner stars and use them at different ends of the table.

What a pretty little addition for your tablescape! Have a turkey cookie cutter? Give it a try.
I lost mine... thus the star. :)

xoxo,

Nicolette & Sage

Q: What is your general type of style? How would you describe it?
A: "A comfy, relaxed style. A style that doesn't require too much work, but still looks good. I would say I like to keep it fresh!

Marina does an excellent job of esablishing her own unique style that's relaxed while still, "keeping it fresh". Especially as finals are looming overhead, we all could care less about what we wear we just hope we can get to class on time with assignments successfully in hand! Through the simple act of putting on matching earrings Marina effortlessly dressed up her look. Instead of a plain o' sweatshirt, she chose a colorful piece to cheer the gloom of the skies that hovers above us. Additionally, what is more comforting than having an article of clothing your very dear grandmother wore!

Liquid Gold

Today you must ask yourself... Is all that glitters gold? In this case...

Yes.

One of Deborah Lipman's two luxurious new nail polishes contains 24carat gold dust while the other contains Virgin Diamond powder. Ladies, you are not dreaming, and better yet, they are 20 dollars each. Yes, one bottle of nail polish with precious materials for only 20 dollars. I think it's time for a little splurge.
Which one would you don?

Miss Lindsey Wixson: the Muse of Many

MONDAY MUSE
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Remember those high school years when you wanted to look your very best for school? Planning outfits for the next day and waking up early to fix your hair was so important. When 16 year old model Lindsey Wixson wakes up, she has to dress to impress for a slightly larger crowd. Some days, Wixon prepares for model go-sees while other days, she must get ready to walk the runway for designers such Lanvin, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham, and even Louis Vuitton.

Talk about yearbook pictures. Miss Wixon has also graced the covers of Vogue Italia, Vogue Turkey, Vogue Paris and an innumerable amount of other acclaimed magazines. Photographer Gabrielle Revere says Wixson's " got something, she's got that thing that defines people". She is an undeniable beauty with her lush lips, soft eyes, and overall unique face. Although, in many interviews, her shy but confident personality is what is exceptionally flattering to all who meet her.

Miss Wixon is definitely living a true teenage dream.
