My Own Wonderland!

Someone recently said to me that you live only once, but you sleep every night. How true! My bedroom is the most private, intimate space I can create for myself right now. So it was that I started with an unsightly hole in the wall, a discolored blue bed left by the owner, and bare walls.

The less you have to work with, the better you can see an idea in your head. Material clutter hampers creativity. So I got to work. I got the bed removed and got more space in return. I got two thick mattresses kept on the floor, and that’s my bed. The windows got draped in blue and two chairs from the loft found new life with a kiss of white paint.

The old set of closets, brown and dull, stood there silently as every other corner of the house found its share of vibrant colors. So I dressed it up a little. The closet, I mean. It looks so alive now, and happy.

I sleep every night in this little wonderland of mine. Soon new colors will find their way into this room. Like fishes in green grass. Like red cows in a violet field. Like yellow birds in a Indigo sky. And I slip into dreams as colorful as the things around me. Not bad!

Olympic Gold Medal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Made by Mom

I know everyone brags that their mom makes the best cookies. Probably because many moms follow the Nestle Tollhouse recipe on the back of the chocolate chips package. But my mom, the forever health-nut, loves to add a cup of oatmeal, a cup of Craisins, and a cup of chopped almonds. I'm so craving her cookies right now. Since she moved to a higher altitude within the past six months and is not used to baking in new conditions, she has been practicing to get her cookies just right. Here is a text pic she sent me few weeks back... to which I replied that they looked flat. I know... with her I'm brutally honest. Sort of like the way she tells me my rear is 'gorda.' That's just the loving relationship we have.

Here is one she made for my step-father on Valentine's.

You have a couple more days of practice runs to get it just right before I fly across country to visit.

I'm expecting a Gold Medal effort. 

(All joking bantor is made in jest.)

OPEN UP YOUR PURSE STRINGS FOR AUTUMN/WINTER!!!

I recently attended an event.. and a very fashionably educated ( interpretation: she was dressed fashionably up to the minute) fashionista approached me and posed this question: " Excuse me, what should I invest in for this Autumn/ winter?". Hmmmm the key word would have to be 'invest'.

So to all my fashionable followers, this Autumn/ Winter on this side of the Aussie globe, open up your purse strings and embrace the Autumn/ Winter title and concept.. but don't necessarily have to adhere to it. ( meaning: although it may be classified as Autumn / Winter this season, fashoinista's are more inclined to sacrifice the 'cold & damp', to continue wearing the fashionable)

This Autumn/ Winter, the good old 'leggings / tights' come back..., the blazer type jackets make a heavy showcase.. ( hint: cluster some brooches on the blazer for a modern touch). The little black dress in the form of a 'mini hugger' will still be ever present as it was during the 'summer nights'.

Team the black mini dress with leggings and slip on those ankle bootlegs!!! woo hoo xoxo.

So if you're confused, then sorry you can't be saved. Below is a list:

1.Blazer - short or medium length
2.long sleeved black mini ( instead of last years smocks.. this year the smock has cinched in size and form)
3.leggings
4.ankle boots - with a HEEL please... if you want to wear ankle boots with a flat heel.. then gees you may as well wear your boot slippers!!!! dress it up ladies.
5.always accessorise!!!! ( add colour to the autumn/ winter black palette)
6.Long hair.... if you can grow it!!! ( so just ask for a trim the next time you have maintenance for your 'mane')
7.you can also get away with wearing the black skinny leg jeans! xo.

GENERAL IDEA- and the poodle (wahhh laaaa laaaaa)

So, I won a ticket to Paris and packed in some srious culture absoption- firstly atthe Musee De Poupee- and archive of dolls- where I discovered  my REAL FUR DOG ORNAMENT called Fluffy is actually a 18th century china dolls pet dog! Fluffy was sadly thrown out of the window by an old flatmate who thought it looked demonised... sad but true. Anyway I will be posting some incredible postcards I got there laters...
ad then i went to the pompidou , bypassed all the femenist commentry artwork and came across some General Idea Films... I totally love AA Bronson anyways but WOW this is good.






Test Tube, the film that preceeded those created by the collective below is really worth a watch if you can get hold of the full-length.

Heres an extract. Wierdly, I think somene has drawn this diagram for me before, perhaps my old tutor of artistic academia Jonathan Miles.

BOJANA JEVIC

I'm very lucky to have  Bojana Jervic a very talented costume/fashion designer from Serbia assisting me at the moment who has a visual penchant for exhuberant detail. She works super hard and  drinks insanely strong black coffee...

Bojana has made elaborate collections for performance (like the garments below inspired by Serbian folk costume), and most recently this collage at piece inspired by the work of serbian fashion illustrator and artist- Milena Pavlovic Barilli, who made surrealist ads from Vogue in NY during 1930-'40s.

Bojana's VALENTINES FACT:
 "Apparently Milena's parents were madly in love, but never have lived together. She lived in Serbia and he in Italy, and they were sending letters to each other whole their life, even after Milena died."

Her piece will go on show at the Belgrade Accademy of Arts next week in a group show.
