Life's Little Treasures

Treasure Hunt

Last week their was an article on AOL about a woman who found an old key with a typed letter attached titled: Finders Keepers. Long story short, a man who had been dead for 30 years left this for someone to find promising a treasure of $250 in gold coins. This led to an excavation on an empty lot in Springfield, Illinois. The only thing that was found was old bricks and bottles. The note had been left by an old pranskter in the neighborhood. To read more about this article, click HERE.

When I was a little girl my grandpa would leave occasional maps for me to find treasure on our country property in California. We had about 10 acres, and these searches were truly something special.

We had chickens, peacocks, a family Billy goat named Pierre, cows, haystacks, a small almond orchard, an old astromony dome, and a barn. You can imagine how creative and fun a treasure hunt could be!

First he would leave me a map, somewhere I could find it. Then I would gather the family, and of course, someone would have the ole' camcorder following the event.

I dug in a sand pit next to our German Shepard Robbie's old dog house. I discovered an Foldger's coffee can filled with pennies, nickels, and dimes. How amazing for a kid to find! But the real treasure was the memory my grandfather gave me. (Note to family: wondering if that VHS is still around! ;)

Movies to put you in the 'Hunt' mood:

Does anyone have a special treasure hunt experience, or wonderful memory of a grandparent?

Wishing you a beautiful new week!
